AI Policy Overview

Feminist Studies recognizes the increasing prevalence of generative AI and AI-assisted tools and technologies. Our commitment is to publishing original, authentic, and innovative research, artwork, and creative writing. In this spirit, Feminist Studies expressly prohibits the use of AI for producing or altering any content submitted, reviewed, or published in the journal, be it research, creative writing, or artwork, without our express permission being granted at the time of submission. We believe that authors are fully responsible for the content that they create. The use of generative AI compromises this principle. If you believe that you have reason to request an exception to any of our policies above, please make your request in your submission and explain why you believe your use of generative AI or AI assistance should be acceptable in a Feminist Studies publication. The journal’s editorial collective will make a determination before moving forward with review and publication of any such work.

AI Disclosure Policy

If the author has used any generative AI or AI assisted tools, they are responsible for disclosing that information to the journal at the time of submission and then again if the manuscript is accepted for publication. This disclosure should be made clearly in the text of the submission email, as well as in any cover letter submitted. Feminist Studies reserves the right to reject, revoke, or otherwise pull any manuscript or article at any stage in the submission and production process if the authors have failed to properly disclose any use of generative AI or AI assistance.

AI Reviewer Policy

Feminist Studies insists that the peer review process should be free of AI, as peer review is a deeply human commitment that relies on feedback from disciplinary experts. As such, Feminist Studies does not accept AI generated reader reports. As we recognize this can be somewhat difficult to prove with 100% certainty, the Feminist Studies editorial collective will have the final say on any questions of alleged AI use in the peer review process.

AI Policy Revisions Reservation

Feminist Studies recognizes that AI is an ever-growing and expanding technology. As such, Feminist Studies reserves the right to revise, revisit, and/or alter this policy on an ongoing basis, as determined by the editorial collective. Please check our website, feministstudies.org, for our most recent and up-to-date policies concerning the use of AI in our academic and creative works.
